The YouTube Thumbnail Enchancer is a simple way of retrieving and even saving locally YouTube image thumbnails.

Besides just retrieving the thumbnail, the library can also overlay a YouTube play button on top of it, so users can easily distinguish the thumbnail from other images on the page.

The library was created to use YouTube preview images instead of loading the entire (bulky) YouTube embed code on a page.

The main thought behind it was to load just the image, and load the video only when the user clicks on it. (YouTube Thumbnail Enchancer only fetches the image, it does not do anything else though).

YouTube Thumbnail Enchancer does not use the official YouTube API to retrieve the thumbnails, but simply hacks its way through the YouTube image hosting CDN that stores images in the form of "http://img.youtube.com/vi/ID/MQdefault.jpg".

Installation and usage instructions are included with the library's README file.
